Women - 25/1/2022

WARWICK WOMENS GOLF NOTES for Monday 24 Jan 2022 The blustery, cool and drizzly weather that persisted all through Saturday didn’t deter the thirty-two players who turned out to compete for some incredible prizes in the 4BBB Stableford sponsored by the Big W Distribution Centre. Big W have been supporting women’s golf in Warwick for many years and we are all extremely grateful for their generosity, but none moreso than the winners of this event, Mary Young and Carole Brandon. With a new TV tucked under their arms they were pretty chuffed with their game and their 45pts, scored evenly between the two. Not a single one pointer sullied their impressive card. Four shots behind Sharron Cooper and Dian Macdonald beat off three other couples with 41pts to also win a fantastic trophy each, a doona and a mattress protector. The Run-Down extended to Marg Adcock and Lisa Weatherley and Liz Cockram and Molly Scotney. The Pro Pin on the 13th was shared by Lyn McKillop, on the edge of the hole, Mel McLennan, Sam Hinze and Molly Scotney. Other scores were as follows: J Singleton & H Olsen 41, P Roberts & S Hinze 40, K Devereux & M McLennan 39, T Ingall & A Payne, M Kahler & Y Pinington 38, L McKillop & J Barnes, A Cox & W Rhea, A Lyons & T Bell, G Mills & V Bennett 35, R Darton & N Norris 33, D Johnston & D Evans 31, J Lester & J Aspinall 26. On Wednesday 19 the first RSL sponsored Mid-Week Medal for 2022 was played with the morning players enjoying a fine sunny round and the afternoon players being drenched by rain. Unfortunately that is the luck of the draw in golf and there’s no picking it. At least one group failed to finish their round. Gwen Mills sunk a great putt on the first for par to set herself up and despite fading on the back nine finished with a nett 75 to be the best in Div 1. Jill Barnes was only one behind and was awarded the runner-up voucher from the sponsors. In Div 2 Ros Darton went one better to win with a 74 nett while a 76 nett gave Anne Lyons the runner-up award. Best putters were Mel McLennan with only 24 putts, and Marie Carey with 28 putts. Yvonne Pinington scored a solid 35 nett to win the front nine trophy for the day. Balls in the Run-Down went to Mel 78, Maria 76 and Kath Devereux with 78 nett. The MWM graded pins were won by Marg Adcock, Anne Lyons and Lois Wilson and the Pro Pin on the 7th by Marg Adcock at 200mm with Jill Barnes, Gwen Mills and Mary Young sharing the spoils. Division scores were: M Young 80, M Adcock 81, J Stewart 87, A Payne 90, J Lester DNF. Div 2: Y Pinington 76,T Ingall 79, L Wilson 80, H Olsen, D Macdonald 81, D Johnston 83, V Bennett 87, L Weatherley 90, C Abood, L Lane, J Aspinall, C Brandon, W Rhea NCR. On Saturday we are hoping for clear skies so we can finally contest our 2021 Medal of Medallists Honour Board event. Those players eligible to contest this 18 hole Stroke event are the Medal winners from 2021: Jill, Ros, Kath, Annice, Marg, Tub, Sam, Mel, Di J, Donna, Trish R, Gwen, Anne, Michelle, Wendy, Majella, Mary, Di M, Vicki, Janine, Lyn M, Judy S, Judy L, Anna and Maria. There will also be a daily 18 hole prize for which the winning medallist is not eligible. On Sunday our traditional Opening Day 4BBB Medley Stableford will be held, sponsored by Sam Eaves Pro Shop. Get in the mood with some green and yellow and put your names on the timesheet for a great day out on the greens.
