Last Saturday a smaller field than usual lined up for the single stableford event sponsored by BNW Accountants to whom the club is grateful for the support. The field size was no doubt due to the overcast and showery weather conditions but those conditions didn't stop Jessie Ollerton from posting a great score. Jessie had 41 points to score by just a shot from Michael Watt with Sean Haynes also posting an excellent 39 points. Jay Roberts had his best score in a good while with 38 points which is good golf on a 6 handicap. Bert Bownds and Aaron Osborne both had 37 while Clayton Frank had another good round for 36 points which closed out the ball run down. The Pro pin on the 13th hole saw Matty Penn win 5 balls with Geoff Hinze winning 3 balls and continuing to play some great shots. Chris Hynes won 2 balls while Keith Clark and Justin Sneath both won a ball each. Neil Moore won the NTP on the 5th with Charlie Morrison winning the 7th and Michael Watt the 9th. Jay Roberts won the 11th pin while Peter Darton scored his first pin shot win on the 16th. Next Saturday is a red marker day stableford while the big day next weekend is the Opening Day on Sunday. This day is the traditional start to the golfing year and has been played as a mixed event for generations and that will also apply this Sunday. Teams can be mixed, men or women in the medley event and the day is sponsored by Sam Eaves from the pro shop. Many thanks to Sam for his support of this time honoured event. There is a shotgun start at 12.30pm so get your pairs organized for what is always a great day. The course is sure to be in magnificent condition and a big field is certain. It is hoped that Sam himself will be able to play but not certain following his cricket debut last Saturday. Apparently Sam went for a quick single on a slippery wicket but his batting partner wasn't so sure and sent Sam back and the quick turnaround saw Sam on the ground with a twisted knee which on Sunday was almost as big as his head.
