Welcome to a brand new year of golf at the Warwick Golf Club. There have been plenty of golfers out on the course over the holiday period and why not? The course is in the most magnificent condition so get out there and enjoy the golf over the new 12 months. Last Saturday the Dan Lyons Sports Store single stableford event attracted an excellent field of 71 players and the winner with 41 points was Jamie Ollerton. Jamie had a shot to spare over Ross Newton who scored the runner up voucher on a countback from Belmont Golf Club member Scott Mills visiting his family in Warwick . Scott is a 5 marker at Belmont so he certainly played well on the day. The ball run down saw Scott, Josh Hynes, Josh Kerr, Chase Longney, Mark Coote, Greg Carey, Gary Russell-Sharam and Andrew Collins all score balls with the final ball in the countdown to Andrew with 37 points on a countback. The pro pin on the 13th saw Ross Newton help his score along by winning 5 balls there. Don Warrener won 4 balls while Wayne Walters won 3, Mark Coote 2 and Peter Hynes a ball. One of the most improved golfers in the club in Josh Hynes had a field day winning pins at both the 5th and 11th. Josh had 40 points in the game off his 6 handicap and is now certainly in the top echelon of golfers in the club. Greg Wallace won the 7th, Don Warrener the 9th and Wayne Walters the 16th. The previous Saturday saw the January Monthly Medal sponsored again by John Dee and the club is very thankful for their ongoing support of this event. Dave Speedy had a net 65 to win the event and the B Division of the Medal while Kris McLennan had a 2 under off the stick to win the Division A of the Medal. Next Saturday members play in the King Street Mechanical stroke event and thanks to Jon for his support there. Other big events to note are the Sam Eaves Opening Day 4BBB medley stableford which officially starts the 2022 season and is timed for a shotgun start on Sunday 30th January at 12.30pm. This is sure to be a popular event as usual so ensure your place on the time sheet. Also for members the 2022 Condamine Steel and Rural Shootout is set to go again on Sunday 11th December, 2022. Players love this event and the Condamine Steel people are again supporting the big day so special thanks to them for their great support. Players can nominate now for the event by paying $40.00 t the pro shop or to the captain ensuring you also nominate your shirt size should you make the final 19 players. Your best six scores for the year in Saturday events are counted commencing from the time you make your payment so good luck to all there.
