Women - 20/10/2021

Warwick Women’s Golf Notes – 18th October, 2021 Wednesday 13th October saw a good field of ladies take to the course to contest the ever-popular Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining Single Stableford. Freshly cored greens certainly made putting a challenge. Leading the field was Maria Carey, who scored a fantastic 40 points. Normally this score would be out on its own but Jan Aspinall and Lyn McKillop both managed an awesome 40 points as well. Congratulations to you all, we would have loved to declare you all winners, but Maria survived the countback to take home the Cherry Tree voucher. Jan was the runner up and received a sponsor voucher. Balls in the rundown went to Lyn McKillop 40, Helen Olsen, Vicki Bennett 39, and Dian Macdonald 37. Mary Young, Margaret Adcock and Majella Kahler shared the pro pin for the day. A Single Stableford was played on Saturday 16th October. Anna Cox with 37 points was the winner on a count back from Judy Lester. Anna took home a Pro Shop Voucher. A big thank you to Sam Eaves Golf for his sponsorship. Balls in the run down went to Judy Lester 37, Lyn McKillop 35, Annice Payne 34 and Helen Olsen 33 on a countback from Mary Young also on 33. The Pro Pin was shared between Molly Scotney, Judy Lester, Majella Kahler and Mary Young. Lois Wilson with 20 points was the winner of the 9-hole competition from Jan Byrne with 16 points. The semi-finals of the Presidents Foursomes were also played on Saturday. Gwen Mills and Donna Keogh were winners over Danielle Seibel and Anne Lyons 5/4. In the second game Marg Adcock and Dian Macdonald overcame a strong comeback from Di Evans and Yvonne Pinington to take the win 2/1. On completion of these games Liz welcomed players and past presidents to a lovely afternoon tea held on the deck. There was lots of reminiscing and chatting from past and present players. Thank you, Liz. The President’s Foursomes final was played on Sunday. Marg Adcock and Dian Macdonald were up against Gwen Mills and Donna Keogh. Play commenced at 11am with a number of spectators keen to follow the players around the course. The front 9 was closely contested with Dian and Marg being up one at the turn. Gwen sunk a long down hill putt on the 10th to even the game. The closely contested game continued over the next six holes with both teams being on the 17th green for four. Marg sunk her putt to win the hole and the match 2/1. Congratulations to Marg and Di on their win and to Gwen and Donna for a great game. There is a great opportunity to get some help with your golf over the next six weeks. Sam Eaves is running some group lessons on a Tuesday 9am or Thursday 4pm. A big congratulations to our two dedicated gardeners Helen Olsen and Joely Singleton for their success in the Warwick Horticultural Society’s Spring Garden Competition.
