Women - 8/2/2021

WARWICK WOMEN’S GOLF NOTES - 8 February 2021 The single Stableford event held on Wednesday 3 February was contested by a small field of nine players with a large contingent of women attending the funeral of fellow golfer John Devitt. Kath Devereux continued with her purple patch and her creditable score of 34 pts was good enough to win the Cherry Tree voucher for the day. Kath had a great start with 20pts on the front nine and was able to claw back from a couple of triple bogies to play around her handicap. She then continued her good form into the weekend, winning the February Monthly Medal with a fine 71 nett. Because of the small field on Wednesday only three balls were further on offer and they were won by Annice Payne, the runner-up with 33pts, and Ros Darton and Di Macdonald in the run down. Other players scored as follows: S Cooper 32, T Ingall 31, E Casey, J Barnes 30, D Johnston. Divisions for the Monthly Medal were evenly divided on Saturday. As mentioned Kath won the Division 1 medal and Condamine Club prize with a stroke to spare from the runner-up Marg Adcock on 72 nett. Marg’s round included two ‘gobbles’ giving her a jump-out start in the annual event. Division 2 Monthly Medal went to Annice Payne with a good 71 nett, however the daily Condy Club voucher was won by newcomer Merisa Ots with a super 68 nett. Merisa is currently a Flexi member so ineligible to win the Monthly Medal. This was only Merisa’s fifth card and her best gross score by a big margin so the handicapping system has given her ‘the chop’ reducing her 44 handicap to 36.7. Obviously this will even out as she returns more cards to the system. I predict it won’t be that long before she breaks the 36 anyway. Annice was awarded the runner-up voucher. The best putters on Saturday were Molly Seibel with 29 putts and Wendy Rhea with 30 putts. Balls in the run-down were awarded to Anne Lyons 72, Tub Ingall 73, Gwen Mills 73 and Wendy Rhea 74. Other scores were: Div 1 – M Kahler , L Cockram, M Scotney 77, J Stewart 78, M Young 80, J Barnes 81, M McLennan 83, D Seibel 84, Div 2 – H Olsen 75, L Carey 77, Y Pinington 78, D Evans 79, S Cooper 80, R Darton 83, J Millard 89 . Sunday’s Opening Day was a huge success with a good field of 76 players, including a few visitors, enjoying the warm weather and the cool drinks on the deck after play. Kath and Charlie Morrison scored just enough points to beat out Captain Brendon and Sam Hinze on a countback with 71 combined. Kath contributed her share but a good 38pts from Charlie probably cinched the win. Pro Sam was on hand with Kym and the boys to present his trophies to all the winners. Captain Ros handed out the 2021 Golf Programme on Sunday, in a choice of book or sheet form, so see her if you want a hard copy. It will continue to be emailed to all members as well. On Wednesday 10th there is a single Stableford programmed with prizes being sponsored by the Coffee Club and on Saturday we see the resurrection of the Captains vs Presidents event. It has been some years since the little wooden cup has been brought out. Teams will be allocated and you will be advised which team you are playing for, probably on your card. The Committee has cleared and cleaned out our Presentation Room in readiness for Saturday’s event so we can follow the scores as they are totaled on our big white board. Join us in the Room for a bit of friendly rivalry between teams and some fun prizes sponsored by the Captain and President. Best of luck is extended to our team who are travelling to Oakey on Monday for the D&SW Executive Challenge. Good golfing ladies.
