The Warwick Golf Club celebrated the largest field to line up in decades when the Warwick Real Estate sponsored Australia Day 2 person ambrose was held.
There were 158 players representing Bay Island Golf Club as well as club players from Toowoomba, Allora and Stanthorpe. Two shotgun starts were required to get the full field under way with a 7.00am and 12 noon start.
The club wishes to acknowledge the fantastic support for this event from Neil Carney and the team at Warwick Real Estate. Neil started supporting this event many years ago and has continued to support this day as well as other events at the Warwick Golf Club and his support is greatly appreciated and a field of this size is a credit to Neil and also Captain Brendan Landrigan who worked so hard to make the day a huge success.
The overall winners on the day were Connor Cruice and Eliza McLennan with a fantastic score of 55.5 nett. The winning mens team was Brodie Quirk and Dylan Galloway with a 58 nett defeating Chris Hynes and Neil Moore on 59.5. The winning mixed team was Michael Wall and Claire Brereton from Bay Island Golf Club in Moreton Bay with a 61.5 nett just a half shot in advance of Rhys Farrell and Mel Mclennan 62.
Last Saturday men played in a rare Canadian Foursome and Rhys Farrell was at it again winning with his partner Michael Watt with 63.5 nett. The runners up on the day were Cec Watts and Mal Galloway with a 66.12 nett and they received a voucher for their fine effort. The run down saw Troy Burrows and Ian Wallace on 68.5, Adam Hart and Mark Thomas on 69.75 and Peter Boney and Phil Economides on 70.25.
The pro pin on 13 saw Jason Owens win 5 balls, Ric Mills 4, Shane Reid 3, Mark Thomas 2, Mick Banks and Keiran Delaney a ball each.
The pin shot on 5 went to Ian Wallace who obviously had a good day finishing third as well while the 7th went to Brian Morrison, the 9th went to Michael Watt, the 11th to Peter Boney and the 16th went to Shane Scotney.
It was good to see some players that are not regular Saturday players in Cec Watts and Troy Burrows amongst the ball winners.
Next weekend is a big weekend again for members with the John Dee monthly Medal stroke on Saturday followed by the Opening Day 4 ball aggregate medley stableford on Sunday. This event is sponsored by Sam Eaves Pro Shop and is the traditional start to the golfing season so a big field is expected for this day.
The entire Warwick Golf Club was deeply saddened by the sudden death of long time popular member John Devitt last week. While John had not been in great health recently his death came as a shock to all last Wednesday and the condolences of all club members go out to his family at this difficult time.
