Last Saturday a reduced field of 44 players started in the Par -v- SS event. The event was sponsored by the Sandy Creek Hotel and the club wishes to thank the management for their ongoing support of the Warwick Golf Club. You should try their pizza!
The winner on the day was Josh Hynes with an excellent +4 score off his handicap of 7. Well done to young Josh who had just a shot to spare from Adam Nielson with a +3 and then Tony Kahler with +2.
That was some improvement from Tony Kahler who had 21 points on Wednesday last but came back with the equivalent of those 21 points on the front nine on Saturday when he turned with +3 and only faded late in the round with a minus on both the 17th and 18th holes.
The ball run down saw both Josh and Adam receive vouchers while Tony collected a ball along with Eddie Kemp on +1 Darrell Bain on +1 Trevor King and John Porter also both on +1.
The pro pin on 13 saw Scott McLennan win 4 balls, Jay Roberts 3, Brendan Landrigan 2, while Simon Macdonald and Adam Nielson collected a ball each.
The nearest the pin on 5 went to Trevor King while Tony Kahler won the 7th, Eddie kemp the 9th, Neil Moore the 11th and Adan Nielson rounded out a good day with the pin on the 16th.
Next Saturday members play in the Canadian Foursome event which should be a lot of fun so get your partners organized for that day now. The format is simple for those who haven't played in that type of event before. Both players drive off on each hole and the best ball is selected and alternative shots are played from that point until holed out. Both players again tee off on the next tee and so on.
Members will have noted that the Clubhouse deck refurbishment is now all but complete. Thanks to the Federal Government's Community Drought Recovery Project 2020 (Community infrastructure i.e. Halls, Clubhouses and facilities) funding The Warwick Golf Club deck is now a reliable all-weather facility. When the weather changes and becomes unfavourable, there is now no need to retreat to inside the clubhouse.
As well as enabling the supply and installation of clear full-height blinds, the funding has also allowed some physical changes to the deck area. Doors will be fabricated and installed to both external entrances and the usable deck floor area has been increased by the rejigging of existing balustrading. When it is fully finished, the many local people using the clubhouse facilities will appreciate the new benefits.
The Warwick Golf Club gratefully acknowledges the funding programme from the Australian Government and which was enabled and supported by the Southern Downs Regional Council.
