An excellent field of members and visitors teed off last Wednesday 13/1/21 in the Bells Butchery trophy for January, with three visitors from Allora coming to play on the big boys course!
Winner on the day was Craig Simpson from the Allora club with 40 points from runner-up and one of our newer members Bill Jubb with a very good 39 points, on a countback, off his 28 handicap.
Ball rundown: Mark Thomas / Tony Kahler 39, Sam McLennan 38, the very unlucky Garry Adcock and Mick Banks 37, Scott McLennan/ Trevor Malone/Scott McLennan and Ross Kingston all on 36 points.
NTP’s: Con Seibel on 5th, Gary 2 Names on 7th ( see below!) Fred Howard on 9th, Anthony Seidl on 16th. Pro pin on 11th – Doug Wilson 4, Garry Hanson 3, Mick Banks 2, Mark Coote 1. Pro pin on 13th – Mark Coote 3, Mort Henderson 2, Charlie Morrison 1.
Highlight of the day was a hole in one on the 7th by parent club President Gary 2 Names, and being his first Ace, he was very excited. We all helped him celebrate with the very kind round of drinks for those present. 2 Names is currently preparing his Podcast of the Ace for those that missed the apres golf celebrations! Well done Gazza!
This week we play in the Hawker Road Function Centre trophy and on 27/1/21 in the Warwick Hotel trophy. Members are reminded that the parent club is holding the annual Australia Day 2 Ball Ambrose event on Australia Day with a full card already for the shotgun start at 12md. The club has opened up starting times from 7am for any latecomers still wanting to join the festivities. The sausage sizzle and drinks will be on the deck, with the club closed, as usual on a public holiday, courtesy of the Juniors Program under the guidance of Club Captain Brendan, who will be in your pockets for the goose club raffle to support his Juniors program.
Two upcoming important events for the Sporters diary; Shootout participants now have six rounds to finalise their place in the 19 man field, with the final qualifying round on 24/2/21. That date is also the Annual General Meeting of Sporters Golf Club, held after golf, usually starting about 5.30pm and over in a short time.
And finally our golf thought for the week – ‘Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he will never be disappointed! ’..Alexander Pope ( who was obviously a C grade high handicapper!)
