Last Wednesday 30/12/20, Sporters had a field of 86 players, made up of 74 men and 12 ladies from Warwick Women’s Golf, continuing the Sporters commitment to covering the ladies during their stand-down period before their 2021 program starts. Our field included visitors from Brisbane, Redlands, Allora and Toowoomba City Golf Clubs. The event was sponsored by Betta Home Living and we thank them for the continued sponsorship.
Winner on the day, was parent club champion Kris McLennan, off his handicap of 1, with 39 points, on a countback from Derrick Hewitt on his handicap of 20! This is a perfect demonstration of the operation of the handicap system, where a 20 handicapper almost tipped out a club champion on a handicap of 1!! Well done Derrick!
Ball rundown: Don Stewart 39, Mike Hoskin/Brendan Landrigan/Mark Coote/ Joe Levick/ Ross Kingston /Simon Pulley and ‘Diamond Pete” Walsh all on 38 points.
NTP’s: Simon Pulley on 5th, Brian Davidson on 7th, Kris McLennan on 9th, Dave Duroux on 16th. Pro pin on 11th - Nick Tomkins 4, Anthony Seidl 3, Peter Farrell 2, Kerrin Delaney 1. Pro pin on 13th – Kris McLennan 3, Doug Rickert 2, Brendan Landrigan 1.
This Wednesday 6/1/21 is the first pro shop stroke round for 2021, followed then by the Warwick Hotel trophy. Sporters members must remember that the parent club committee have removed the ‘Preferred Lie’ local rule, so all balls must be played where they lie. The exception is in a bunker where, under the advice of Golf QLD, preferred lie may be taken during the absence of bunker rakes.
