Women’s Golf Notes for Dec 17th
Women’s Golf celebrated their Christmas breakup on Wednesday 9thwith 46 ladies enjoying lunch on the deck. Everyone enjoyed the meal by the Condamine Club which was complimented with wine courtesy of the Sporter’s Golf Club. Earlier 41 of us had played a nine-hole stableford with the two best scores only to count but in an interesting way. The idea was to make the largest score possible with the two results. Standing over a short putt knowing it was really worth 10 points was quite nerve racking and the 4 pointers ended up making the big difference to the winning scores. With 238 points the winners were Annice, Tub, Vicki and Helen. Close on their tales with 237 were Mary, Sharron, Jan and Nachcha. The outfits and decorations on buggies were impressive all adding to the festivity of the day. Following lunch the annual prizes were announced as follows:- Winter Cup (Weekend Points) Roslyn Darton, Gillam Family Memorial Trophy (Mid Week points) Judy Lester, Qld Brooch in 3 Divisions to Marg Adcock, Helen Olsen and Sharron Cooper, International Bowl in 3 Divisions to Nachcha Craggs, Annice Payne and Roslyn Darton, Saturday Eclectics in 3 Grades to Jill Barnes, Helen Olsen and Wendy Rhea, Wednesday Eclectics in 3 Grades to Jill Barnes, Majella Kahler and Wendy Rhea, and lastly the Gobbles to Mary Young.
Saturday was the last day of competition for the ladies and 7 brave souls took out cards in the Cherry Tree Coffee & Dining sponsored day, despite the threat of rain. Mary Young brought in the best score with 35 pts followed by Nachcha Craggs on 34. Balls in the rundown / pin went to Annice Payne and Tub Ingall.
Finally, our last official event for the year, the Shootout, was held on Sunday the 13th with Yvonne Pinington taking Di Evans all the way to the 18thgreen before becoming the winner. Annice Payne came in third place finishing on the 17thgreen. Congratulations to all players who qualified to be in this event. The weather was horrendous however everybody rugged up and played in good spirits. Others leaving us along the way in order of elimination were:- Sharron Cooper, Nachcha Craggs, Janet Davis, Anne Lyons, Mel McLennan, Vicky Bennett, Liz Cockram, Michelle Wright, Rosyln Darton, Joely Singleton, Di Johnston, Jill Barnes, Kath Devereux, Janine Stewart and Marg Adcock. Thanks once again to Vicki and Terry Bennett of Suds Laundromat for sponsoring this event for the 5thconsecutive year. We are very grateful for this continued investment in Women’s Golf here in Warwick. The purple shirts were well received by all the players. Ian Skillen (winner), Kath Devereux (2ndplace), Kris McLennan (3rdplace) and Neil Carney (first out) were the lucky ticket holders in the Shootout Calcutta.
These are the last notes for 2020 from Women’s Golf. Remember golf is still being played over the festive season. Timesheets apply for both Wednesday and Saturday. Thanks to Sporters and the Club for sponsoring women during this period. The 2021 program begins on Saturday January 9thwith the Monthly Medal. Merry Christmas to everyone.
