Warwick Golf Club Sporters day
On Wednesday the (28th Oct) the rain again proved to be a problem. 55 players attempted to play in the Warwick Hotel Sporters day, however only 40 players completed the course due to the torrential rain and hail that fell at around 12.30 and again at 3.00pm.
Winner on the day was Dan “Tiger” Lyons with 39 points, followed be Doug Rickert on 36 points. Ball rundown, club captain Tony Kahler showing some form with 36, John Kemp from Gainsborough Greens Golf Club, Eddy Raets and Michael Payne on 35, Greg Wallace, Keith Clarke and Darrell Bain followed up with 34.
Nearest the pins went to Greg Wallace on 5, Gary Russell-Sharam on 7, Greg Wallace again on 9, David Speedy on 16. The pro pin on 11, 4 balls went to “Super Coach” Phil Economidis, “Wave watcher” Mal Crawford 3 balls, John Kemp 2 balls, Doug Wilson 1 ball. Pro pin on 13, Peter Balfour 3 balls, Neville Heard 2 balls, Greg Wallace 1 ball.
The rain is most welcome; however, it would have been more convenient if it had rained during the night. There were lots of rather damp bodies in the clubhouse after the game, but you can’t bargain with nature. The course greatly benefited from the deluge and is looking a picture. There were some glowing reports from the assistant pros that came from all over to compete in the Pro Am on Monday. The same with the 120 Order of Merit players that played on the Tuesday. Hats off to the green staff and our band of volunteers that worked so hard to produce a great course to play on. Thought for the day, Persistence is the mother of miracles and half of achievement.
