Wednesday was an absolutely beautiful day, with 14 teams out to celebrate National Tartan Day. To bring out the scottish in us all, some players were all kitted out in their tartan. There were no bagpipes or haggis to be had but the day was generously sponsored by W. Carey & Sons Quality Meats.
42 points was the target until the last group came in, where Melanie McLennan and Yvonne Pinington returned a great team score of 43 points. Trish Bell and Anne Lyons were hot on their heels with 42 points to be the runner up team for the day, on a countback from Gwen Porter and Di Macdonald. There is shortbread in lieu of Balls for Tartan Day, so please collect your shortbread from the proshop asap, or the guys said they will eat it.

Di Johnson and Sharron Cooper 40, Di Evans and Ellie Casey, Judy Stiff and Nachcha Craggs 39, Michelle Wright and Jill Barnes 38, Kath Devereus and Anna Cox, Patricia Eastwell and Helen Olsen 37. The best dressed team (although they roasted in their outfits, was Jill Barnes and Michelle Wright).
Saturday was a cold and windy day, but 19 keen ladies took to the course to battle it out for our July Monthly Medal. Danielle continued her fine form with a win in Division 1 with a great 74 nett, closely followed by Tub Ingall with 76, who has managed to return to form to be back in Division 1 again. Well done Danielle, Well done Tub!! Danielle had the magic putter in division 1 with only 27 putts.
Division 2 was won by Annice Payne with 74nett, with Anne Lyons continuing her good form to be runner up with 75nett. Anne also won the div 2 putting.
Rundown balls went to Gwen Mills and Mark Adcock, and our Covid rundown balls in lieu of pins went to Sharron Cooper, Mary Young, Jill Barnes and Di Evans.
Last week unfortunately this slack secretary forgot to post the notes. So here is a round up of what happened in such an exciting week.
Wednesday the 24th we played Midweek Medal, with a great balanced field in each division. Division 1 saw Nachcha Craggs win with 72 nett, winning the double Medals in June. Melanie McLennan was runner up with 74nett. Mary Young won the putting with 29 putts.
Division 2 was taken out by Tub Ingall with 71 nett, and also winning the putting in her division, with 27 putts. Di Johnson was runner up with 74 nett. balls in the rundown went to Helen Olsen, Jill Barnes, Di Evans, and Michelle Wright. Extra Balls in lieu of pins went to Marg Adcock, Patricia Eastwell, Anna cox, and Janine Stewart.
Well congratulations to Janet Davis for winning the Oaktree Retirement village single stableford event on Saturday, with a great 38 points. Marg Adcock was runner up with 36. (2 balls due to field size). Trish Roberts and Helen Olsen won the balls in the rundown, and the Covid 4 went to Annice Payne, Kath Devereux, Mary Young and Patricia Eastwell.
Saturday also saw the semi finals of the 4BBB Handicap Matchplay Championships with Danielle Seibel and Molly Scotney defeating Anne Lyons and Trish Bell 2/1, with Melanie McLennan and Jill Barnes defeating Di Macdonald and Yvonne Pinington 2 up.Sunday saw the final of the Championship, with the Mother /Daughter duo taking line honours over Jill and Melanie on the 18th Hole. It was a super match, and very final worthy. Congratulations to both teams for such high standard golf, with teamwork getting everyone to the finals. A small gathering was there for presentations, with sponsor Michelle Wright from Michelle's Wright-At-Home Hair Studio there to present the trophies for this honour board event. The finalists also would like to mention how very appreciative they all were of the gallery that followed to support them all.
Today we will be playing a Single stroke for a trophy generously sponsored by KFC. We thank our local KFC for sticking with us during this hard time, it is so very much appreciated. Saturday we will be the qualifying round of the Presidents Foursomes, a handicap event, so grab a partner, shake hands on the 1st tee, and go out and have fun. (no sorry's in this game) Sunday will be the the quarter finals, with the semi finals and finals the following weekend. Good luck to all.
