Last Saturday 70 members played in the Par -v- SS event.
Brodie Quirk obviously enjoyed the game that is not always that popular with some players as he fired an excellent round to record a plus 6 result. Brodie played of a 12 handicap on the day and no doubt, will continue to reduce his handicap as his game progresses as he has not been playing regular competition golf for all that long.
His winning score was two shots better than runner up Ron Simon who won the runner up prize from Caleb King on a countback. Other ball winners were Joe McIvor and Ross Hetherington both of whom recorded plus 3. Both are new members in terms of competition golf and it is great to see them on the board early in their playing career. Ray Dudley had a plus 2 with Terry Bennett, Jon Pearson and Michael Hoskin all on plus 1. Terry Bennett in particular had an excellent second nine to get into that position. Rod Hansen, Greg Wallace, Nic Lane, Anthony Moore and Viv Roser all finished square while Peter Millard and Scott McLennan rounded out the run down on minus 1.
There was one visitor on the day that being Anthony Moore who won a ball and enjoyed the course.
Next Saturday members play in a single stableford sponsored by Oaktree Retirement Village and all members should take note that the popular 4BBB handicap matchplay qualifying event is on Saturday 11th July so find a good partner for that upcoming event.
On a very sad note all members were extremely sorry to learn of the sudden passing of very popular long term member Ken Burley. Ken only played last Wednesday and suffered a heart attack on Sunday morning at his home. He was 91 just a month shy of his 92nd birthday. Ken regularly recorded rounds under his age most recently on the 22nd January this year when as a 91 year old he had an 88 gross. Only last Wednesday he had a 94 off the stick. Ken was the Patron of the Sporters Club until his passing and was so for many years. Ken was somewhat of a legend around the golf club and each year organized a group of men to assist the ladies on their Open Days with bunker raking and many other tasks. He will be sadly missed by his many friends at the club and the members and Committee have his dear wife Marge in their thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
