Women’s Golf Notes for Wednesday February 5th
The Australia Day Golf game was a huge success last Monday with over 100 in the field. Sincere thanks once again to Neil from Warwick Real Estate for sponsoring the day. Scott McLennan was on hand to congratulate the winners on behalf of the business. Days like these are great for our club as all proceeds are kept for the club use.
With World Handicapping being introduced during the week and the system down, Wednesday was a fun day with 26 ladies playing a Pinehurst Foursomes. Basically, we needed to keep out wits about us as each person hit one ball from the tee, then hit each other’s once before choosing the best with its owner hitting it, followed by alternate hits with this one ball to the hole. Some concentration and at times strategy required. Marg Adcock and Di Johnston were all over it coming in with the winning score of 69.5 nett. Joely Singleton and Mary Young were one shot behind on 70.5 with the 2 pairs in the rundown being Jill Barnes and Ros Darton and also Judy Lester and Gail Watts. These four ladies also managed to win the pins on the 9thand 11th. With this type of game it wasn’t possible to have a ProPin. Thanks to Gill Young for suggesting the Pinehurst Foursome. From all accounts it was enjoyed by everyone. Our appreciation to the Sporters Club for sponsoring this 5thWednesday competition, as they do for each 5thWednesday throughout the year.
Remaining scores:- J Bryne & M Wright, M McLennan & J Stewart 71.5, H Olsen & P Eastwell 73.5, Y Pinington & W Rhea 74, T Ingall & G Young 76, J Fysh & D Macdonald 76.5, J Burt & P Hemmings 79.5, J Bowles & V Bennett 82, N Craggs & A Ellis 86.
The February Monthly Medal sponsored by the Condamine Club was played on Saturday with 21 in the field. Most players were surprised to have been given extra handicap following the world handicapping system coming into play. Make sure you check your handicaps on Golf Australia please ladies to see any changes. DIv 1 was a tightly contested battle with Tub Ingall winning a 3 way countback from Sam Hinze and Melanie McLennan, all on 70 nett. You are continuing to surprise us all Tub with your good scores given your recent hip surgery. Sam got the runner-up and Mel had to be content with the first rundown ball. The DIv 1 putting went to Mel also with just 27 putts around the 18 holes. Well putted Mel. Div 2 with only 6 in the field was won by the ever consistent Yvonne Pinington with 71 nett. Janet Davis took out the runner-up with 75 and the putting competition with 28 putts. Well played to you both ladies. The remaining 3 rundown balls went to Majella Kahler, Janine Stewart and Gwen Mills. Sam Hinze won the all in approach with Mary Young, Majella Kahler and Wendy Rhea winning the graded ones. The pro pin on 16 was won by Sam Hinze claiming two balls and Di Evans and Majella one ball each. The Divisions were clearly lopsided today simply as a result of who came to play and who couldn’t make it. Our handicapper Jill and President Liz had a good look at the handicaps after play and concluded that the division breakdown of 0 to 23 and 24 to 45 is still accurate.
Remaining Scores:- Div 1 M Kahler 72, J Stewart 73, G Mills M Young 74, M Scotney J Lester 75, L Cockram H Olsen 80, J Barnes M Adcock 82, D Evans N Craggs 85. Div 2 A Lyons 76, V Bennett 78, W Rhea 81 and S Cooper 90.
Sunday was our annual Opening Day sponsored by Sam Eaves Pro Shop with 46 members playing a 4BBB Medley Stableford. The overall winners were a men’s only team with Liz and Eamon Cockram being runner-up with a fine 45 pts. Kath Morrison and husband Charlie featured in the rundown as did Ros Darton and Mary Young, with Majella Kahler, Janine Stewart, Ros and Kath winning various approaches. Majella took out the only two pro-pin balls on offer. While the numbers playing were disappointing, a good day was enjoyed by those who could make it. Maybe a rethink of this day is needed for 2021. The year’s program is now available in our presentation room together with a one-page major dates list for the coming year. Conditions of play will be publicized for each event as it happens unless there is enough demand for the leaflet covering everything as in the past 2 years to be published.
Both today and Saturday are single stablefords from the red markers sponsored by COLES and a new sponsor, Cleaning Catering Products respectively. Saturday the 15this an aggregate stableford with each of the committee and other members forming teams of four, followed by afternoon tea on the deck to welcome everyone back to golf.
Finally I’d like to extend thanks and appreciation to our Vice-Captain Ros Darton who is simply fabulous with her camera on our special days before and after play and out on the course. With the number of comments on FB about her action shots I’m sure many of our members feel the same way. Ros even gives of her time when not actually playing to do this for our club. Many thanks Ros.
