Women’s Golf Notes 4/9/19
Last Wednesday we woke to the sound of rain on the roof which was lovely for us and the golf course. 4 ladies ended up playing 18 holes without too much rain but their scores were not recorded as we require 10 ladies for a medal competition to go ahead. So the Mid-Week Medal for August has been postponed and will now be played on Wednesday the 18th September.
Saturday was a lovely spring-like day and 16 ladies played in the Belle Vue Cafe sponsored single stableford. Nachcha Craggs was our winner for the day with 34 points. The runner-up was Anne Lyons on a count back from Judy Lester both with 33 points. Judy received a ball in the rundown along with Lois Wilson on 32. Sam Hinze won the approach on 11 with Anna Cox and Janet Davis receiving balls for their approaches on the 5th. Nachcha won 2 balls in the Pro Pin and Jill Barnes received 1. Remaining scores were Mary Young, Anna Cox, Helen Olsen 31, Ros Darton, Janet Davis, Sam Hinze 29, Yvonne Pinington, Patricia Eastwell 27, Jill Barnes 26, Ellie Casey 24 and Zel Crook 22.
Yesterday we had our annual Open Day with a record 108 ladies registered to play at time of print, with 25 of these being local Warwick ladies. The details from yesterday will be available in next week’s column.
Today we have a fun single stableford, limited club event. Choose whichever 3 clubs, plus your putter, that you think will be able to get you around the course and the best score will win the trophy donated by KFC. Saturday will be our monthly medal for September. Thank you as usual to the Hawker Road Function Centre for sponsoring this event.
We wish Melanie all the best for next week as she heads off with the Downs South West team to contest the Meg Nunn Salver at the Southport Golf Club. Here’s hoping the girls can do us proud and bring the Salver back to the Downs.
Congratulations to Jill Barnes, Di Evans and Lois Wilson for winning their respective Divisions in the Gertrude McLeod Competition which has been running on our stroke events from March through to August. These results are calculated on the 3 best nett scores of all players in relation to the daily scratch rating of the course on the day. Runner-ups in each of the Divisions were Marg Adcock, Trish Bell and Tracey Spinetti. We now wish Jill, Di and Lois all the best as they head off to the difficult Maroochy River Golf Course at Maroochydore on September 16thto play in the Gertrude McLeod Winner’s Event against other divisional winners throughout the state. Good luck girls and enjoy the experience.
A reminder that the President’s Foursomes qualifying event is to be held on Saturday 14th with afternoon tea following the game at around 4pm. Many of our past Presidents will be joining us. Please find a partner and some opponents for this annual event. The top 8 nett qualifiers will contest the quarter finals on the Sunday with semifinals and the final the following weekend. Remember a foursomes event means you that you and your partner alternate shots using the one ball. One player plays tees off on the odd holes and the other player the even holes. Please play at a time to be able to attend the afternoon tea and support our President, Judy.
