Women’s Golf Notes 14/8/19

Last Tuesday, a team of 10 ladies travelled to City Golf Club for their ladies open day. While nobody had great individual scores for the day, we managed 7 out of the possible 8 points on offer for zone pennants. That puts us on top of the table for these pennants with one more open day to go which happens to be our own. Our day is coming up on Tuesday the 3rd September. Please put your name down on the list in the presentation room and start thinking of a prize or two for the goose club.

After golf at City, Marg, Majella and Yvonne went on to Laidley and represented Warwick at Laidley’s open day on Wednesday. The course was very dry with tee up and the ladies thoroughly enjoyed their day there including a delicious afternoon tea. Marg took home a pin and Yvonne the accuracy drive for her division.

So with these ladies away and with a couple of others on holidays our field for our comp on Wednesday was reduced to 18 ladies who played a stroke sponsored buy Coles. Judy Lester and Jill Barnes both had great scores of 71 nett with Judy winning on a countback. The tough course at City must have helped your golf ladies. The all in pin on 5 went to Jill and the graded on 11 went to Judy, Di Macdonald and Patricia Eastwell. The Pro pin on 13 went to Judy who received 2 balls and Nachcha Craggs received 1. Joan Burt and Joy Bowles both with 73 nett, received a ball each in the rundown which was reduced to 2 balls due to the field size. The other scores were, Patricia 74, Patti Hemmings, Vicki Bennett 76,Tracey Spinetti, Michelle Wright 77, Gwen Mills 78, Nachcha, Judy Stiff, Di Macdonald 79, Ann Ellis 80, Marlene Vincent 81, Tub Ingall 83, Helen Olsen and Diane Johnstone. Another reminder ladies to always please remember to sign your cards before you hand them in.

On Saturday we played a single stableford sponsored by another of our valued sponsors, The Cherry Tree. Janine had a great game securing 36 points. Nachcha Craggs on a countback from Tracey Spinetti was runner up with 33 points. Jill Barnes won the pin on 13 and for paying her extra $1 also won 2 balls in the Pro pin. Sam Hinze received 1 ball in the Pro pin and also won the graded pin on the 5th for A grade, Yvonne Pinington took the B grade and the C grade was a skinner.  Janine won the Stoney’s voucher on the 9th. Tracey received a ball in the rundown as did Yvonne who had 31 points. Other scores, Jill 30, Anne Lyons 29, Tub Ingall, Di Evans 28, Helen Olsen, Gwen Mills 25, Majella Kahler 24 and Sam Hinze 21.

Congratulations to Melanie McLennan and Mary Young for their selection in the Meg Nunn Salver team. Mel is in the team to head away to Southport on the 8th of September for a week of match play against the other Queensland districts, while Mary is the 1st reserve for the team and will also travel away if another of the selected 6 become unavailable.  This is Mel’s 3rd year playing Meg Nunn and we wish her and our district team all the best in this State event.

Today we play a single stableford courtesy of Red Rooster and then on the weekend we have our Open Weekend for both men and women with both days and competitions being sponsored by Yamaha and Top Two Motorcycles.  Saturday is a Single Stroke event and Sunday is a Stableford. So ladies please think about getting your groups together and play both days if you can. Any visitors are very welcome and we look forward to a great weekend of golf.
