WARWICK WOMEN”S GOLF NOTES for Wednesday 24 July 2019

With conditions perfect for golf it was not surprising that some golfer was going to play perfect golf and that’s exactly what Yvonne Pinington did in the President’s Day single Stableford last Saturday. She drove like an A grader and chipped and putted like a professional to return a massive 42 pts, beating the nearest player by 10 pts. Her great round won her the day’s trophy, generously donated and presented by Club President Don Stewart, but it also shot her to the top of the Shoot-Out board. This was Vonnie’s best round for four years and she was delighted to wipe 1.5 off her handicap. Great game Yvonne. Gwen Mills survived a four-way countback to win the runner-up prize with 32pts. Balls in the run-down went to the rest of the 32s, Donna Keogh, Jill Barnes and Janet Davis, and Helen Olsen with 31 took the last ball. Molly Seibel won the all-in approach, and Jill Barnes, Majella Kahler and Vonnie took home the graded approach. The Pro Pin was shared by Jill Barnes, Ellie Casey and Marg Adcock. The remaining scores were: M Adcock, L Cockram 30, R Darton 29, S Hinze 28, E Casey, M Young, N Craggs 27, M Seibel, J Lester, P Eastwell 26, T Ingall, L Carey, M Kahler 25, A Tomkins 22, K Wharton 21. It was great to have Kerry back for a visit and playing a rare game of golf.

Last Wednesday a good field of twenty-four players nominated in the single Stableford sponsored by a benevolent Sporters’ member, who may or may not be called John. Melanie McLennan was the best in the field with a fine 35pts, just pipping an improving Majella Kahler who was the best of the 34s. With generous sponsorship we were able to hand out more balls than usual and the five balls in the run-down went to Nachacha Craggs 34, Judy Lester 33, Helen Olsen 32, and Pat Eastwell and Janine Stewart 31. Approach shots were won by Mary Young, Marg Adcock, Dian Macdonald, Janet Davis (two), Helen Olsen and Majella Kahler and the Pro Pin was shared by Judy Lester, Majella Kahler and Marg Adcock. The rest of the field scored as follows: P Hemmings 31, T Bell 30, D Macdonald, V Bennett 29, J Barnes 28, M Adcock, T Ingall, J Bowles 27, M Vincent, M Young, J Fysh 25, J Davis, D Johnston, G Porter 24, E Casey 23, J Stiff 21, L Gibson.

Under the guidance of Jean and Pat, a small group of our members have been producing pom-poms and knitting for several months and with Jumpers & Jazz upon us we are thankful to have our own yarnbombing display on the 1sttee area. Well done ladies. You are all invited to get in the “J&J mood” this weekend when we play the Jumpers & Jazz medley Stableford event. There will be a prize for the ‘best dressed’ buggy as well. This event has been kindly sponsored by Southern Downs Ag and we thank them for their support. The nomination fee will be the same for any players with a Golflink number.

On Friday our team of Anna Cox, Jill Barnes, Liz Cockram, Justine Washbourne and Ros Darton head off to Toowoomba to play the City team in Adam Falconer pennants. City is presently leading the competition so we wish our girls all the best in what should be a good match-up.
