WARWICK WOMENS GOLF NOTES: The bleak winter weather has continued to keep the fields small over the last month and I’m sure we’ll all be happy to see some typical Warwick winter with cold mornings but some sunny days to follow. On Wednesday 3 July the single Stroke event was kindly sponsored by Coles and twenty-four players took out cards. Lyn Gibson makes no secret of the fact she likes cool weather so had no trouble returning an easy 71 nett to take home the Coles’ voucher. Trish Bell was the best of the 73s and was the runner-up. Balls in the run-down went to 78 nett; Pat Eastwell 73, Janine Stewart 75, Gwen Mills 76 and Nachacha Craggs 78. The graded approaches were won by Mel McLennan, Lyn Gibson and Pat Eastwell and the Pro Pin by Mel McLennan and Gwen Mills. The rest of the field scored as follows: D Johnston 78, L Cockram, J Barnes, M McLennan 79, J Bowles, M Vincent 80, H Olsen, M Wright, P Hemmings 81, E Casey, M Kahler 82, D Macdonald, V Bennett 83, J Stiff 84, J Davis 86, M Young 87, J Fysh, A Ellis 90.
Another bleak, windy day on Saturday 6 July saw a small field of fifteen players turn up for the Condy Club Monthly Medal. Again in the difficult conditions only two golfers played to their handicap, those being the Medal winner and runner-up in Div 1. Jill Barnes returned 71 nett to claim consecutive Medals and Majella Kahler had a 73 nett. Division 2 players had a tougher time of it and Donna Keogh was probably surprised to win the division with 78 nett. 79 nett was good enough to give Ros Darton the runner-up. The best putters were Liz Cockram with 31 putts and Donna Keogh with 33. Mary Young won the all-in approach on 13th and the graded approaches went to Gwen Mills and Majella Kahler with Ms Skinner winning division 3. The Pro Pin balls went to Judy Lester and Jill Barnes. Other scores were Div 1: N Craggs 76, J Lester 77 (run-down balls), L Cockram, D Evans 79, M Young, G Mills 81, M Wright 85. Div 2: P Eastwell 85, T Roberts 88, Y Pinington 89, J Davis 90.
The single Stroke was also the qualifying round for the Single Handicap Matchplay honour board event and the eight qualifiers in order were:- J Barnes, N Craggs, J Lester, D Keogh, R Darton, D Evans, M Young and G Mills. These matches need to be finalized before next Saturday and must be played at 11.00am Friday if agreement cannot be reached re a playing time. Best of luck to all participants.
Next Saturday 13 July is the Red Rooster single Stableford event with four ladies out playing the semi-finals of the SHMP. There is a timesheet in operation for groups of three. When you put your name on the timesheet you are committed to that group and a late withdrawal can disrupt several groups in the field so if you must withdraw please do so as early as possible and only if unavoidable. Sunday’s game is the 9 hole Ambrose hitting off at 11.30am to coincide with the final of the SHMP honour board event. If you are hoping to play please advise Mary or Judy.
Good luck to those members travelling to Oakey today for their Open Day. We are still in a very good position in the Open Day Pennant comp so hopefully we can earn more valuable points today. The sympathy of all women members is extended to fellow player Janine Stewart whose mother passed away last week at the grand old age of ninety-four. Our thoughts are with you.
