WARWICK WOMEN’S GOLF NOTES FOR WEDNESDAY 8TH MAY, 2019
Welcome back to Lyn Gibson who enjoys the cooler weather for playing golf. Lyn eased back into the game last Sunday in the 9 hole Ambrose fun event and followed up with a good win in Wednesday’s Stableford off the white markers scoring 37 points. Thank you to Melanie from Style Shoes for her generous monthly sponsorship. Lyn won on a count back from the unlucky Helen Olsen who has now lost two games on a count back scoring 37 both times! Helen didn’t go home empty handed though as she won the back nine with 20 points and Ann Ellis took out the front nine with 20 points also. Great scoring ladies. Anna Cox chipped well to win the all in approach on the 11th, the A grade 7th and a ball in the Pro pin. Ann Tomkins had a good second shot to win the B grade approach and Patti Hemmings won the C grade. Janine Stewart won 2 balls in the Pro pin.
Scores: L Gibson H Olsen 37, D Evans 35, A Ellis 31, M Kahler Y Pinington J Stiff 30, J Stewart 29, A Tomkins 28, J Washbourne J Burt 26, D Macdonald A Cox 25, P Hemmings N Craggs 24, J Fysh 21, D Johnston J Bowles 20, G Porter.
Seven ladies travelled to Goombungee for their Open Day and our team gained six points which now puts us in the lead on 18 for Zone pennants, one point in front of City with Toowoomba third on sixteen points. Marg Adcock won the Division 1 pin shot but sadly no major prizes were brought back to Warwick. A fun day was had with a beautiful lunch provided by the Goombungee ladies and a koala even joined in our game on the 18th hole! I believe a couple of our ladies lost their coloured balls to crows who obviously thought they would look better in their nests than on the fairway.
A reminder that the Wednesday 10th tee draw is still 11.55 for a noon hit off for the rest of this month. On the 5th June the draw will be at 11.25 for an 11.30 start. As the weather gets colder and the daylight hours shorter this draw time will continue on for the Winter months of June, July and August.
On Saturday due to the inclement weather we did not have the required 10 players to have our Monthly Medal competition. This has been rescheduled for this coming Saturday the 11th. What great timing it was to have the greens fertilized the previous day. The course is looking amazing in spite of the difficult conditions. Well done to our green’s staff and volunteers.
A single stroke competition was contested for the players who braved the rainy conditions. The weather didn’t worry Tub Ingall who scored a fantastic 68 nett to win the day and also the all in approach on the 5th. Gwen Mills had a 72 nett to be runner up. Other scores were D Seibel 73, D Keogh 76, R Darton 77, M Kahler 79, J Lester 80, N Craggs 86, L Carey
Judy Lester won the Pro pin on the 9th.
Today Wednesday we play a single stableford, the Secretary’s Pen event. Our hard working secretary Marg Adcock is providing the trophy. Congratulations to Marg for winning an award from Inside Golf magazine for her story about two of our remarkable members Ken and Marge Burley which you can read on page eight of this month’s edition. Pick up a copy in the clubhouse or you can also read it online. We may have to refer to Ken and Marge as ‘their majesties’ after the heading ‘The Royal Couple of Warwick’ which the Inside Golf editor gave to Marg’s article.
Our 4BBB Handicap Matchplay qualifying round is on Saturday 18th May. Please put your names on the sheet in the presentation room as well as the timesheet to enable others looking for a partner to know who may be available. The conditions of play are also hanging up in the room. Please check with your partner about being available on the qualifying dates of the 19th, 25th and 26th before marking your card with a Q for qualifying or an NQ for not qualifying.
