Women’s Golf Notes for April 10th2019
April started with an enthusiastic group of women and men going to Kooralbyn for a couple of days of golf and fun. Those who have played this course will know its challenges and yet rewards for good play. Reports are that the red course wasn’t enough of a challenge on the first day so our ladies took on the white course on Tuesday, with a slope of 145 and ‘more exciting tees’. There were tales to tell of numerous lost balls, carries that even our lowest markers couldn’t reach and so the stories went on. These trips away are open to anybody to join and are a great way of experiencing other courses and returning to appreciate our own course even more than we already do. Many thanks to Janine Stewart who is our organising link to these trips.
Needless to say, as most of the travellers were recuperating our Wednesday field on April 3rdwas down with only 17 players for the Style Shoes white marker stableford. Thanks to Melanie for sponsoring this day. Patricia Eastwell was the clever golfer winning with 31 pts, the front nine going to Nachcha Craggs with 17pts in a 4-way countback and the back nine to Diane Johnston on 15pts. Helen Olsen won the all-in approach and Marg Adcock (her 3rdday of golf), Helen and Joy Bowles the graded approach. Only 2 balls were offered in the Propin going to Mel for her usual accurate chipping. Other 18 hole scores were:- N Craggs 30, T Ingall M Adcock M Young 28, M McLennan 27, C Brandon 26, H Olsen V Bennett 25, D Johnston A Payne 24, Y Pinington 22, J Bowles 21, G Porter J Burt 20, M Burley 18 and J Fysh 17.
The April Monthly Medal was played on Saturday the 6thwith the field being boosted to 30 as we welcomed 3 women from Indooroopilly Golf Club. They were very complimentary of our course however did not think they got much ‘distance relief’ on their husbands! It was great to have Colin from the Hawker Rd Function Centre present the Condamine Club vouchers and monthly medals to our winners. This sponsorship is very much appreciated each month. Marg Adcock continued her winning form to win Division 1 and her second Monthly Medal for the year with 76 nett. Close behind was Jill Barnes on 78 to be runner-up and Danielle Seibel took home the wine glass as reward for having only 27 putts. In Division 2 Trish Roberts was the winner with 73 nett (fresh from her overseas trip), followed by Ann Tomkins as runner-up on 75 nett. Lou Carey won the putting in this division with 30 putts. The all-in approach went to Anna Cox as did the A grade one, with Ann winning B Grade and one of our visitors the C Grade approach. Five balls were given out in the Propin which was on the 16thtoday with Marg winning two for her birdie and Majella, Trish and Janine Stewart receiving one ball each. The ball rundown went to C Brandon 76, L Cockram 78, T Ingall and A Cox 79. Remainder of the field: Div 1: H Olsen M McLennan 80, J Stewart 81, D Seibel N Craggs 82 J Lester 83, M Kahler 84, M Young G Mills 86, M Seibel 87, A Payne 89. The Owls (Third Age Golfers) sponsored a popular 2 Ball Ambrose on Sunday 7thwith all proceeds going to the Oncology Unit Cancer Care Centre at St Andrews Hospital in Toowoomba. Lynn Lane has been instrumental in organising this day and we thank her for her efforts for this worthy cause. 80 players registered with prizes for men’s, mixed and women’s teams. Carole Brandon and Mary Young combined well to win the women’s prizes, with Nachcha Craggs and Mel McLennan coming a close second. Trish Bell played with husband Ross and won the mixed from Joely Singleton and Don Warrener. It was good to see some of our beginning ladies from last year along too. These days are a great social time with fellow golfers and we encourage any of our players to come along. At the end of April (28th) we are having just a 9 hole ambrose starting at 2pm which is open to anyone. Please ring the proshop if you would like to be teamed up with one of our regular members for this afternoon. Our next 18 hole 2 ball ambrose is on Labour Day Monday May 6thsponsored by Thailand Golf Tours. Past member Cheryl Sternberg who is now an Ambassador to this company will be attending the day and promoting a ladies only golf Tour to Vietnam in November. Please mark this day in your calendar and support the Thailand Golf Tours generous sponsorship, while enjoying golf, drinks and a BBQ on the deck. All proceeds will be to our club.
