Women’s Golf Notes 27/2/19
Last Wednesday we played a stoke event kindly sponsored once again by The Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining. The winner on a countback was Mary Young from Gill Young with nett scores of 72. The balls in the rundown went to Helen Olsen 74, Michelle Wright, Vicki Bennett and Janine Stewart all with 75. Our pins for the day went to Michelle on the 9th and the graded on 16 went to Mary, Nachacha Craggs and Patti Hemmings. Marg Adcock received 2 balls in the pro pin and one each went to Judy Lester and Mary. The other scores were Marg 76, Melanie McLennan 77, Anna Cox 78, Joely Singleton 79, Carole Brandon, Tracey Spinetti, Judy Lester 81, Nachacha, Chris Munro, Karen Mackie 83, Tub Ingall, Patti Hemmings 84, Judy Stiff 88 and Janet Aspinall. On Saturday we had a record field of 56 ladies who all enjoyed playing an aggregate stableford in trying, windy conditions. Many thanks to our captain Mary and President Judy Lester for coordinating the field and to Kathy and John Payne from Country Smiles Dental Clinic for sponsoring the prizes for the day. The winning team was Liz Cockram, Cita Weier with new members, Yvette Wallace and Jan Byrne who had 83 points. In second place closely behind were Ann Ellis, Anna Cox, Di Evans and Tracey Spinetti on 82 points. Our third placed team was Donna and Thomi Keogh, Dian Macdonald and Lou Carey with 80 points. There was a lucky draw card and this went to Karen Mackie, Bette Bonney, Di Johnston and Anne Lyons. The graded pin on the 5th went to Judy Lester, Janet Davis and Di Johnston. On the 16th, Janine Stewart, Yvonne Pinington and Ros Darton. The all in pins went to Janine on 7, Melanie McLennan on 11 and Mary Young on the 13th. We had our Stoney the Fishmonger pin on 9 and the voucher for this week went to Melanie. A big thank you to the committee ladies for supplying a delicious afternoon tea and to all who were involved in making the day the huge success that it was. We welcome the new ladies at any time to join us for a game on a Wednesday or a Saturday. Please don’t be afraid to ask us to include you in the field, we would love you to play.
Zone 1 Open Days begin in March with the first one being at Pittsworth on March 6 followed a fortnight later at Clifton on March 20. These days are a great way to meet fellow golfers from around our District and explore new golf courses. If you are keen to go please add your name to the list in the presentation room. Nominations are usually due in a week before the event. Once we know who is going, a driving plan is made to share travel etc. Everyone is welcome and we would particularly like to see new faces and high handicappers having a go.
Seven of the Zone 1 courses (Oakey, Pittsworth, Clifton, Toowoomba (Middle Ridge), Cabarlah, City and Warwick) are also the venues for Adam Falconer Shield Pennants, where a team of 5 players compete in match play against each other. The first of these days is on March 29 in Oakey and they usually happen on the last Friday on each month until September. Marg will be posting information about these Pennants in the near future in the Presentation room also. Please consider representing our club (all handicaps welcome although the upper limit is 39) and add your name where you’re available to be selected in the team for that day. The yearly program clearly indicates when and where both Open Days and Adam Falconer Shield Pennants are on for 2019.
Just a note on the local out of bounds rule that was brought in by the management committee earlier in the year. This rule has now been abandoned due to inconsistencies and confusion on where take the penalty drop. This means that if you suspect that your ball may be out of bounds or lost then a nominated provisional ball must be played from where the original shot was played for a penalty of 1 stroke. (stroke and distance) Rule 18.2.
Today we play our Mid-Week Medal for February and on Saturday it is the March Monthly Medal. These are both of course stroke events and good practice in the lead up to our Club Championships which begin on Saturday the 9th.
