Welcome to another fantastic year of golf at the Warwick Golf Club.
The first Saturday competition of the new year was the John Dee monthly medal played last Saturday and there was an excellent field of 64 players so let's hope that that is an indication of things to come for the rest of the year.
The Club is indebted to the management at John Dee for their on-going support of the Warwick Golf Club.
The winner of the Division 1 event was Mark Thomas who shot a net 65 to win by a shot from Dalby visitor Chris Buckley. Jason Owens made a successful comeback to Saturday competition by winning the runner up prize in Division 1. The Division 2 winner was John Devitt who recorded a net 67 which matched by Brodie Quirk and Nick Owens but John was successful on the countback. Christopher Buckley was awarded the Division 2 runner up prize with his net 66 as visitors are ineligible to win Monthly Medals or Honour Board events.
The ball run down saw Brodie Quirk and Nick Owens both on 67, Tim Sutton on 68, Scott McLennan, Kris McLennan, Mick Banks and Charlie Morrison on 69, Dave Speedy and Dave Craggs on 70 and Geoff Hinze the only one of the 71s to score a ball.
The NTP shots went to the ever consistent Michael Hoskin on the 5th, Mal Galloway on 7, Al Matthews on 9, Eddie Kemp on 11 and Joseph Levik on 16. The Pro Pin on 13 saw Simon Macdonald win 5 balls, Geoff Hinze 4 balls, Charlie Morrison 3 balls, Jo Levik 2 balls and Jason Owens and Kris McLennan a ball each.
Some feature events that are coming up that should be noted are the Australia Day 2 person ambrose on Monday 28th January and the Opening Day event for the new season which is on Sunday 3rd February. More about that one next week but the Australia Day event is sponsored by Neil Carney from Warwick Real Estate who has been a wonderful sponsor over the past few years and he is again sponsoring this holiday event which has always proved to be a popular day out on the course and then later on the deck for refreshments and food. It is a shotgun start commencing at 12.00 noon so organize your two persons team for what is always a great day out.
Next Saturday members play is the Malthouse single stableford event and again, our thanks to the management of The Malthouse for their on-going support.
Remember that the new golf rules are in place from the 1st January and there are booklets available in the Clubhouse for those that wish to be aware of the new rules (and that should include everybody) and you can also check up on the rule changes by searching www.golf.org.au where you can watch a short 2 1/2 minute video covering the essential changes to the rules of which everybody should be aware.
Remember that the Condamine Steel Shootout is already underway so don't miss this very exciting event. The $30.00 one out fee for nomination should be paid to Captain Tony Kahler or to the Pro Shop so that your Saturday scores are eligible for the shootout. Your best 4 rounds of the year on Saturdays and the 4 rounds of the Club championships are where you can get s good score in and make to successful 19 players to tee off in December. Fortunately for Mark Thomas he had already paid his $30.00 so his Saturday score last week goes a long way to qualifying him for the final.
Let's have a wonderful 2019 of golf and hope that mother nature is co-operative in looking after our wonderful course.
