Women’s Golf Notes for Wednesday December 19th

Our annual Christmas Party last Wednesday was a great day out both on the course playing a 2 ball 9 hole ambrose and on the clubhouse deck afterwards enjoying a scrumptious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. 52 players were in the field joined by Life Member Daree Foster and past members Anne Ware and Cita Weier for lunch. Patricia Eastwell, Yvonne Pinington, Kathy Payne and Gwen Mills were the overall winners after combining their ambrose scores. Christmas Carols rang out from each tee and bended knees were the norm as missed putts were helped along by a handicapped length of Christmas ribbon. Many thanks to Vice-President Janet Davis for organising all the trophies. Coming second by just ¼ of a stroke were Marlene Vincent, Judy Stiff, Marg Adcock and daughter Jackie Stevens. Third place went to Joy Bowles, Ann Tomkins, Ellie Casey and Zel Crook. The Queen of Trivia, Janine Stewart had everyone racking their brains answering Christmas Trivia with the winners being no surprise in Marlene, Judy, Marg and Jackie. Melanine McLennan held our attention reading a very funny Christmas story of the Right family who managed to do many ‘left’ actions as we all listened carefully, passing our Christmas gift either right of left each time the word was mentioned! We finally got to open the present in front of us at the end! Many thanks to Janine and Mel for the time taken to prepare these activities. Thanks to the many ‘new’ ladies who attended also to join in the fun and celebrations.

This final party day is also the time we announce our yearlong golf prizes. Congratulations to the following ladies for their successes during 2018:

Saturday was the final day of our 2018 Women’s golf program when 15 ladies played a stableford off the red markers with both the winner and runner-up trophies donated by Cherry Tree Coffee & Dining. Scott Morton has been a new sponsor during 2018 and his generosity donating vouchers for 6 separate events throughout the year has been very much appreciated by our members. Everyone loves going to Cherry Tree for a coffee or meal Scott and many thanks for continuing this sponsorship into 2019. Winning the day was President Judy Lester with 36pts. Club Champion Sam Hinze has played well over the last few weeks and was once again runner up with 34pts. Only 2 balls were given in the rundown owing to the field size – to Mel McLennan and Helen Olsen both carding 33. The all-in approach went to Judy with Sam and Helen winning the graded one. Division 3 was a skinner. Majella collected 2 balls in the Pro’s approach and Tub just one. Remainder of the field:- A Cox T Spinetti Y Pinington 32, N Craggs J Barnes 30, A Payne 26, M Kahler 25, L Wilson 24, P Eastwell 23 and J Davis.

Our Christmas Raffle was a huge success raising funds for improvements to our club. Many thanks to everyone who bought tickets and also to those who contributed to the contents and to Committee member Joan for organising it. Congratulations to Gail Watts on having the winning ticket, Cita Weier for coming second and Joely Singleton for third prize. Enjoy the goodies in your prizes ladies.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year as Captain and look forward to developing an interesting program for us all in 2019. Our official Women’s golf year starts on Saturday January 12thwith a Monthly Medal stroke off the white markers. Our Committee has begun sourcing sponsors for all of our events however please let me know if you would like to sponsor a day throughout the year or discuss some options. You don’t have to be in a business to do this and the event would simply become ‘your day’ with your name on the program and card. Our usual trophy value is $30 for the winner.

Until we start again, Wednesday and Saturday golf will be medley competitions with either Sporters or the Management Committee providing prizes depending on the field size. If you are planning to play Wednesday afternoon please gather at 11.30am as usual or phone someone to make sure you get a game. The next weekly notes will be published on Wednesday January 9th. See you all in January, regards Mary.
