Women - 31/5/2021
Warwick Women’s Golf Notes 31/5/2021
Last Wednesday we played a single stableford on the red markers and had a great field of 22 ladies as well as 3 ladies in the 9 hole event. Marg Adcock, with a sore back and a score not seen in quite a while, 40 points, was the very happy winner of the Coffee Club voucher for this month. Di Macdonald, with another excellent score of 35 was runner-up. Balls in the rundown went to Maria Carey 34, Tub Ingall, Vicki Bennett, Yvonne Pinington, Melanie McLennan 30, Di Johnstone, Lyn McKillop 29, Trish Bell, Helen Olsen, Anne Lyons 28, Di Evans, Judy Lester 26, Patti Hemmings (nice to see you back Patti) 25, Jill Barnes 24, Annice Payne, Janine Stewart, Marge Burley 23, Judy Stiff, Janet Davis and Anna Cox. Gail Watts was the winner of the 9 hold comp, followed by Lois Wilson and Lisa Weatherley. Great to see these ladies joining in on the front 9 in the afternoon and enjoying a catch up with everyone in the clubhouse after golf.
Friday saw a great result for our Adam Falconer team, travelling to Pittsworth to play City. The girls squared the day which meant 3 1/2 points to our tally for the year. Janine and Yvonne had good wins and Jill had a thrilling squared match which came down to the last hole and the last match of the day with everyone watching from the clubhouse. Jill sunk a long putt to put pressure on her opponent to tie the match. Mel and Anne both had close loses. That puts Warwick in 5th place behind Toowoomba, City, Pittsworth and Cabarlah all who, except Pittsworth, are yet to have a bye.
As the semi finals of the handicap matchplay took place on Saturday, a small field of 7 played for a Red Rooster sponsored voucher. Anna Cox with 31 points on a count back from Anne Lyons was the winner of the day. We had 3 rundown balls, Melanie McLennan 29, Jill Barnes 28, Sam Hinze 27. It was lovely to have Janet Davis and Patricia Eastwell back playing both having 26 points.
So to the Matchplay. Di Evans and Ellie Casey clawed their was back from 4 down at half time to take Tub Ingall and Trish Roberts to the 19th hole. What a close match! In the second semifinal match, Helen Olsen and Vicki Bennet were the victors over Danielle Seibel and Liz Cockram after being all square after 9. With 7 pars on the day and shots given, great chipping and putting by Helen and Vicki proved to be the difference for Liz and Danielle, going down 5/3. Very interestingly, this meant our number 1 qualifiers, Di and Ellie met the number 7 qualifiers, Helen and Vicki with Ellie having to give 16 shots to Vicki which she used very well and two each to Di and Helen. After Di sinking a long putt on the 1st to square the hole, both teams chipped well through the front nine and after being only one up after 6 holes, Helen and Vicki turned with a lead of 4. This proved too tough to come back from and saw Helen and Vicki crowned our Champions for 2021 with a 6/5 victory. A huge thank you to Michelle’s Wright-at-Home Hairdressing for once again sponsoring this event and to everyone who played along the way. Also thank you to the ladies who followed the final for the support to the finalists.
Wednesday we play a red stableford with thanks to the Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining and Saturday is our Monthly Medal sponsored by our very own, Hawker Road Function Centre. A reminder that this Sunday is Lane Cup qualifying. This is a mixed 4BBB Stroke event with a timesheet operating. Please see Ros or Brendon is you require a partner.
