Women - 29/1/2020

Women’s Golf notes for Wednesday January 29 2020

With the rain on the course over the last week it is looking unbelievable green. It has been such a pleasure to see and enjoyable to play on. The Mid-Week Medal on Wednesday was won by Majella Kahler in Div 1 with 74 nett. Runner-up was Gwen Mills on a countback from Mary Young on 78 nett. Tub Ingall, playing in her first competition game back from recent hip surgery was the winner of the Div 1 putting taking only 28 putts to find the hole. It’s good to have you back Tub. DIv 2 winner was one of our ladies new to golf here in Warwick Wendy Rhea with a blistering 73 nett, eight shots ahead of her nearest rival, runner-up Yvonne Pinington on 81. This score was a count-back from another new comer Jan Byrne. Yvonne won the putting however with 33 putts even after 4 putting one green. Sorry Vonnie those tap ins are crucial. Rundown balls went to Mary and also Judy Lester on 79.

Remaining scores:- Div 1 M Adcock 80, T Ingall A Lyons J Barnes 86, H Olsen 87. DIv 2 D Johnson 84, G Young 85, V Bennett 89 and S Cooper 95. Welcome back to golf Sharron. It will be great to have you playing regularly.

Sincere thanks to the RSL Memorial Club for continuing to sponsor our monthly Mid-Week Medal. This is one of the prestigious events on our calendar and we are delighted to add the RSL’s name to it. As of 2020 the RSL are requiring membership for each calendar year of $7.70 per person. Any vouchers won through the Mid-Week Medal will then be added to your membership and be able to be spent in any way or any amount at the club. You could allow them to accumulate or use part of the winnings and have the remaining credit stay on your card.

Saturday’s golf was a different story with 15 players paying their registration fees and only 6 completing the 18 holes, owing to much needed rain falling soon after the later ones started. The old shed on the 4thhole proved a cosy lunch spot for one group. It seems it pays to play early these days. Winning with 30 pts was Vice-Captain Ros Darton on a countback from two other players, Liz Cockram and Tub Ingall. Tub and another player returning to golf Jacqueline Millard (28) won the rundown balls. Welcome back Jackie. The all-in approach went to Liz as did the A grade one. B Grade was a skinner with C Grade won by Jacqueline. Other finishers were N Craggs and J Singleton. S Hinze A Cox J Barnes W Rhea A Lyons M Young M Kahler Y PInington and M Adcock attempted a few holes only to head back to the clubhouse after the huge downpour. Some were adventurous enough to stay on playing cards in the comfort of the clubhouse.

At the time of writing Australia Day looks as though it will be celebrated in style with 60 plus members down to tee off in a 2 ball ambrose. Many thanks to Neil Carney of Warwick Real Estate for his generous sponsorship of this event for the last few years.

Today we are playing a form of foursomes called a Pinehurst – instructions are in the ProShop. Remember the game will not be handicapped owing to the World Handicap System coming into play on the 30th. Check your handicap after this date as it may have changed. We also have new look-up charts for both the red and white courses which differ from our current ones.

Saturday’s game will be the February Condamine Club Single Stroke Monthly Medal with our Opening Day for the year on Sunday playing as a 4BBB medley stableford shot gun start at 12 noon sponsored by Sam in the Proshop.  Saturday February 15this an aggregate single stableford in teams of four. Each of the Committee will be organising their teams so expect an invitation. Extra groups will be required also so please feel free to organise your own group also. There is a planning sheet in the Presentation room on the front whiteboard. We would love to see as many ladies as possible back for a game together. After play there will be a cuppa on the deck. A reminder to all ladies that the Wednesday afternoon competition starts with a draw at 11.40am and the first group goes by 11.45am all year round now.
