Women - 18/12/2019

Last Wednesday we celebrated our golfing year with a fun nine hole game, presentation of major trophies and lunch.  We played a team event in conjunction with an individual game.  The winners of the team event with 40 points were Joely Singleton, Gail Watts, Caroline Abood and Melanie McLennan who received some lovely handmade, patchwork handbags, lovingly made by Joy Bowles.  The girls were thrilled to win these and they will be treasured. They were closely followed by Di Johnston, Lois Wilson, Marg Adcock and Patti Hemmings on 29.  Winning the single game with an amazing 25 stableford points on the back nine was Joely. Runner up was Cita Weier with 20 points.

But the most anticipated results were for our major trophy winners of the year.  The Winter Cup (Weekend competitions) and The Gillam Family Trophy (Mid Week competitions) are given out to the most consistent players with points awarded on a 5,3,2,1 basis.  The Winter Cup this year was won by Jill Barnes 80 points, 2nd was Nachcha Craggs 76 and 3rd was Helen Olsen 63 points.  The Gillam Family Trophy was won by Di Johnston 75 points, Nachcha 2nd place again one point behind on 74 and Jill was 3rd with 73. Some very close scores and a big congratulations to both Jill and Di.  The Qld Foundation Brooch is given out in 3 divisions and is the best 3 nett scores of six stroke rounds on Medal days.  Division 1 went to Marg Adcock, division 2 Di Evans and division 3 Tracey Spinetti. The International Bowl is awarded to the best in each division from 3 nominated days in June and July.  Division 1 went to Jill Barnes, division 2 again Di Evans and division 3 was Ros Darton.  The Saturday and Wednesday eclectics are also awarded in 3 grades. Saturday winners were Marg Adcock, Helen Olsen and Janet Davis. Wednesday eclectics were won by Melanie McLennan, Helen again and Vicki Bennett.  The last, but certainly not the least, was the coveted Gobbles award. With 13 gobbles this year Marg Adcock was very excited to accept this award just edging out Mary Young and Melanie McLennan.

Then wrapping up our golfing year on Saturday we played a single stableford sponsored by The Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining. 14 ladies contested the day and continuing on her winning streak from the Shootout was Anne Lyons on a countback from Lois Wilson and Helen Olsen all with 33 points.  2 balls were given in the rundown and these went to Helen and Judy Lester on 32.   Judy also took the Pro Pin, winning 2 balls and she was also closest on the 7th for the All In pin.  The graded on 11 went to Jill Barnes and Yvonne Pinington.  Other scores were Annice Payne 31, Gwen Mills, Louise Carey 30 Melanie McLennan, Yvonne, Ros Darton 29, Majella Kahler, Jill Barnes 28, Donna Keogh 26 and Ellie Casey 22.  The shot of the day belonged to Donna who’s ball skipped twice over the now very full 13th dam and walked away with a par. Very clever Donna.

We would like to extend the very best of Christmas wishes to all who read our notes, golfers and friends alike and look forward to the 2020 golfing year.  See you all again on January 11.
