Women’s Golf Notes 27/11/19
Last Wednesday we played the final Mid-Week Medal for the year and it was also the end of points for the year. Melanie McLennan took out Division 1 with a score of 71 nett and Vicki Bennet had 70 nett to win Division 2. Vicki’s score was equivalent to 37 points which enabled her to advance up the shootout board and sneak into the top 19 players. Runners up for the day were Jill Barnes in Division 1 on 75 on a count back from Marg Adcock and Diane Johnston in Division 2 also with a score of 75. Marg won the Div 1 putting with 30 putts and Vicki took the putting in her division with 31. The graded pins went to Melanie, Helen Olsen and Ros Darton and the All In on 9 went to Marg. Mary Young won 2 balls in the Pro Pin and Jill 1. As there were only 17 players, there were 2 balls in the rundown and these went to Marg and Majella Kahler, 77. Aside from winning her division, a highlight for Melanie on the day was an eagle 3 on the 10th. Mel hit the green for 2 and sunk her putt to an exciting cheer from her fellow players. Other scores for the day were as follows, Mary Young, Jan Byrne 77, Di Evans, Yvonne Pinington 78, Helen Olsen, Ros Darton, Wendy Rhea, Joan Burt 79, Patricia Eastwell 83, Nachcha Craggs 84, Annice Payne 86.
On Friday, Danielle Seibel, Molly Scotney, Liz Cockram and Melanie McLennan played together at City Golf Club in Toowoomba in a qualifying event for the Volkswagen Scramble. This was the 3rd year the team has contested this event and after being runners up last year, the girls got there this year with a one shot win over a team from Toowoomba Golf Club. It was a huge shock to the girls, who thought they hadn’t played well enough to overcome the local ladies. They now progress to the State Final in March.
Saturday was a single stableford sponsored by Coles. Anna Cox had a fantastic score of 39 points to take home the Coles voucher. Runner-up with another good score was Di Evans with 35. There were 4 balls in the run down and they went to Jill Barnes and Annice Payne on 33 and Sam Hinze and Trish Roberts on 32. The all in pin on the 16th went to Marg Adcock who was in the hole and the graded on 7 went to our visitor Maxine, Wendy Rhea and the 3rd grade was a skinner. The Stoney’s voucher on 9 went to Trish. Other players scores were, Mary Young, Wendy Rhea 31, Yvonne Pinington, Liz Cockram, Ros Darton 30, Marg Adcock, Majella Kahler 29, Ellie Casey, Janet Davis, Helen Olsen 28, Janine Stewart 27, Nachcha Craggs, Judy Lester, Mel Crook, Gwen Mills 26, Anne Lyons 25, Maxine Townsend, Patricia Eastwell 24 and Melanie McLennan 23.
