Women’s Golf Notes 6/11/19
On Monday the 28th of October our local trainee pros, Connor and Steve hosted a Trainee Pro Am. The trainees played 18 holes in the morning then 11 of our ladies along with over 50 men joined the pros for another 18 holes in the afternoon. We played a single stableford and the winner was Mary Young with 35 points on a count back from Joely Singleton, followed by Di Evans on 34. Mary won the long drive on the 4th as well as the pin on 7. Melanie McLennan took out the other two pins on 11 and 16. It was an amazing experience for the ladies to play with these young upcoming professionals, including 3 girls, who hit the ball so far and don’t miss too many putts. Such a huge credit to Connor and Steve as many of the pros commented on this being the richest Pro-Am they have played in and also adding the best greens they’ve played on all year.
On Tuesday, 5 ladies travelled to City Golf Club to join the ladies in their annual Pink Day to raise money for their local ‘Blush Foundation’, who support women on their journey through breast cancer. Then on Friday Marg and Judy played in the Queensland Order Of Merit event held at our course. Marg was runner-up in the field with 34 points and Judy not far behind with 31.
As last Wednesday was the 5th in the month we played a stableford generously sponsored by Sporters. Some good scores, mainly from the morning ladies, and Nachcha Craggs was the best with a terrific score of 41 points, closely followed by Jill Barnes on 40. Both these ladies had one of their best rounds to take the main prizes. There were 7 balls in the rundown, Annice Payne 39, Gill Young, Vicki Bennett 36, Diane Johnston 35, Jan Byrne, Marg Adcock 33, Dian Macdonald 32. The pin on the 7th went to Nachcha, Ann Tomkins and Jean Fysh and on 11, Jill and Ellie Casey. Marg received 2 balls in the Pro Pin and Jill 1. The remaining scores were Jean, Patti Hemmings 32, Marlene Vincent, Judy Lester 31, Melanie McLennan, Joy Bowles, Mary Young 30, Ellie, Janet Davis 29, Helen Olsen 27, Michelle Wright, Judy Stiff 24, Ann 23.
We must thank the Hawker Road Function Centre for their sponsorship of our Monthly Medal throughout the year, the last of which was held on Saturday in two divisions. The winner of Division 1 was our newly wed Molly Scotney with a terrific 68 nett. She was closely followed by Sam Hinze on 69. Anne Lyons took out Division 2 also with 69 and runner up was Donna Keogh on 71. Balls in the rundown went to Di Evans 73, Gwen Mills, Ellie Casey 74 and Helen Olsen 75. The putting went to Sam with 26 and Anne 27. Jill took out the approach on 5 while Sam, Anne and Ros Darton were successful in the graded pins. Liz Cockram won 2 balls in the Pro Pin on 11 and Nachcha and Ros Darton took 1 each. Other scores were Annice Payne 76, Liz, Marg Adcock, Nachcha 77, Lois Wilson, Liz Ellis 78, Jill, Ros, Yvonne Pinington 79, Judy Lester, Tracey Spinetti 80, Danielle Seibel, Janet Davis, Ann Tomkins 81, Vicki Bennet and Marlene Vincent 82. Today we play and single stableford for KFC and on Saturday we have a 4bbb par sponsored by Big W, so grab a partner and some opponents and have a fun day with some great prizes from Big W. Finally, we would like to wish our Captain, Mary safe travels and good golfing on her upcoming golf tour to Cambodia. Keep an eye on out Facebook page for updates from Mary.
